  22.   I. SETTING THE ENVIRONMENT VARIABLE
  23.   
  24.   If the MOUSE.INI file is not in the same directory as the mouse
  25.   driver, an MS-DOS environment variable is set to point to the file's
  26.   location. Usually the Setup program does this automatically by
  27.   installing a line similar to the following one in your
  28.   AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

  30.   set mouse=c:\mouse
  31.  
  32.   If necessary, you can add this line yourself; or you can modify
  33.   it if you move the MOUSE.INI file to a different directory.
  34.  
  35.   Note: The mouse device driver MOUSE.SYS does not access the
  36.   MOUSE.INI file if it is not in the same dirctory. If your system
  37.   uses MOUSE.SYS and the MOUSE.INI file is not in the same directory,
  38.   you cannot save changes to MOUSE.INI.

  44.   II. USING THE MOUSE CONTROL PANEL IN WINDOWS
  45.   
  46.   The mouse setup program installs a mouse group, which includes
  47.   the Mouse Control Panel, into the Windows Program Manager
  48.   (version 3.0 and later). The group also contains this README file.
  49.  
  50.   In Windows 3.10, Setup also integrates the Mouse Control Panel
  51.   into the Windows Control Panel. Both Mouse Control Panels function
  52.   exactly the same.

  54.   If you wish, you can delete the mouse group from the Windows 3.10
  55.   Program Manager after you have read this README file. You can
  56.   then use the Mouse Control Panel located in the Windows Control
  57.   Panel to customize your mouse.

  63.   III. USING HIGH OR EXPANDED MEMORY WITH MS-DOS 5.0
  64.   
  65.   The /U or /E mouse command-line switches are no longer supported.
  66.   Instead, use the loadhigh or devicehigh commands in MS-DOS 5.0 to
  67.   load the mouse driver into high or expanded memory. For more
  68.   information, see the Microsoft MS-DOS Operating System version
  69.   5.0 User's Guide and Reference.

  75.   IV. USING THE MOUSE WITH WIN 2.X
  76.   
  77.   To use your mouse with Windows version 2.X, you must reinstall
  78.   your version of Windows using the installation software provided
  79.   with it. Windows 2.X mouse support is provided by the driver file
  80.   WIN2MOU.DRV. This file is supplied on the mouse Setup disk
  81.   in uncompressed format.

  84.   To install for Windows 2.X:
  85.   ---------------------------

  87.     1. Using your Windows installation disks, type
  88.   
  89.      a:setup
  90.  
  91.     2. When you are asked to review your display adapter, keyboard,
  92.     and mouse or pointing device, select Microsoft Mouse and press
  93.     ENTER.
  94.  
  95.     3. From the list of pointing devices, select Other (at the
  96.     bottom of the list) and press ENTER.
  97.  
  98.     4. Insert the mouse Setup disk in drive A and press ENTER.
  99.  
  100.     5. Select Windows 2.X Microsoft Mouse (the Windows 2.X 
  101.     mouse driver on the disk) and press ENTER.

  103.     6. Choose No Change and press ENTER to continue with 
  104.     Windows Setup.
  105.  
  106.     7. Finish setting up Windows by following the instructions on
  107.     your screen.

  113.   V. INSTALLING AN OS/2 MOUSE DRIVER
  114.      (OS/2 versions 1.2 and 1.3 only)
  115.

  117.   This release includes the following Microsoft OS/2 Mouse driver:
  118.   
  119.    OS2MOUSE.SYS     for OS/2 version 1.2 and 1.3
  120.  
  121.   This driver works with the following pointing devices:
  122.   
  123.        Microsoft Serial-PS/2 Mouse
  124.        Microsoft Bus (Inport) Mouse
  125.        Microsoft BallPoint Mouse
  126.   
  127.   You do not need a separate driver for each type of mouse.
  128.   You must install the OS/2 mouse driver manually.
  129.   
  130.   To install the OS/2 mouse driver:
  131.   ---------------------------------
  132.    (The following procedure assumes your device drivers
  133.    are in directory C:\OS2.)
  134.   
  135.    1. Copy OS2MOUSE.SYS to C:\OS2.
  136.   
  137.    2. Edit your CONFIG.SYS file to remove the line that points
  138.    to your current mouse driver. This line will vary according
  139.    to the type of mouse installed, but it will be similar to this:
  140.   
  141.    DEVICE=C:\OS2\IBMMOU1.SYS                (remove this line)
  142.   
  143.    3. If you are using OS/2 version 1.2, you must also remove 
  144.    the line that includes MOUSE.SYS. This line will vary according
  145.    to the type of mouse installed, but it will be similar to this:
  146.   
  147.    DEVICE=C:\OS2\MOUSE.SYS  TYPE=MSSER$     (remove this line)
  148.   
  149.    4. Insert the following line in your CONFIG.SYS file:

  151.    DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2MOUSE.SYS

  153.    5. Save these changes and restart your computer.

  159.   VI. USING THE MOUSEPWR FEATURE
  160.  
  161.   Some laptops have the capability to go into a sleep mode to
  162.   conserve power when not being used. If your laptop has this
  163.   capability (laptop SL systems), you may want to use the
  164.   MOUSEPWR feature, which is included on the mouse Setup
  165.   disk. MOUSEPWR restores presleep mode settings of the mouse
  166.   when you resume work on the laptop.
  167.  
  168.   It's not necessary to use MOUSEPWR if your system has Advanced
  169.   Power Management (APM). However, the MOUSEPWR feature requires
  170.   very little memory (976 bytes) and won't conflict with APM if both
  171.   are loaded on your system.

  173.   The MOUSEPWR feature is not automatically copied during the
  174.   mouse setup program. Use the MS-DOS copy command to load
  175.   MOUSEPWR.COM to your system. The MOUSEPWR feature must
  176.   be loaded at the MS-DOS prompt only (not in Windows).

  178.   If you decide to load MOUSEPWR to your system, add it to your
  179.   AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that it conveniently loads each time you
  180.   turn your system on. For example, if MOUSEPWR is in the root
  181.   directory, add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

  183.   c:\mousepwr.com
  184.  
  185.   Otherwise, you'll need to load MOUSEPWR manually each time you
  186.   want to use it. For example, type the following line at the MS-DOS
  187.   prompt to load the MOUSEPWR feature:

  190.  
  191.   where 'mouse' is the directory containing the MOUSEPWR.COM file.
